Preventive Services (in schools)

All children in grades K-5th, on the free or reduced lunch program, have the opportunity to participate in the MDC program. Below are the preventive services provided for students:

Today, our focus is to provide dental, vision and mental health services to children in need in Walton and Okaloosa counties.

Our Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC) serves children in elementary schools in both counties. The MDC provides preventive dental care and travels to 10+ schools and community partners while serving over 1,000 children each school year.

In addition to the local schools, the MDC also partners with other local non-profits. Some of these include Boys and Girls Club of the Emerald Coast and Children in Crisis.

Restorative Services (coming 2021)

Throughout the years, CVHN has built a network of partnering dentists to refer patients who need restorative care. We are excited to build  on this and take the care we provide to the next level in 2021. With the help of our sponsors and donors, we are in the process of adding our second mobile unit. This will allow us to provide access to urgent restorative dental care directly to the children that need it most!

CVHN's Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC)

Our first Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC) made it’s debut in 2008, allowing us to take dental care directly to Walton County Elementary schools. In 2015, the MDC expanded services to Okaloosa County elementary schools.

In 2019, CVHN was gifted a new state-of-the art mobile dental unit by the Dugas Family Foundation. "Pearl,"as our MDC is affectionately nicknamed, is a fully loaded operatory clinic on wheels where we can bring free preventive dental care straight to children who are in need. The MDC is managed and staffed by our team of registered dental hygienists.

We are proud to have created a fun filled environment inside our MDC with interactive educational toys, books, and videos to get our tiny patients excited about taking care of their teeth. The children feel at home on board “Pearl” and love the stickers, pencils and toothbrush kits that they receive after their visit.

In the 2019-2020 school year, the MDC seen 1,058 children, performed 4,477 procedures valued at $224,260.

Elementary schools visited by the MDC program in Walton County: Paxton, Mossy Head, Freeport, Van R. Butler and Dune Lakes .

Elementary schools visited by the MDC program in Okaloosa County were Laurel Hill and Baker

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the MDC was unable to visit Riverside, Walker and our charity partner Children in Crisis.

The program provides free preventive dental care to elementary students that are uninsured and underinsured.

Children’s Volunteer Health Network, CVHN, is a faith-based 501(c)3 organization, established in 2005 in direct response to Walton and Okaloosa counties’ large population of families who are unable to access high-quality health services due to the unavailability (or inadequacy) of insurance.
