CVHN facilitates the delivery of comprehensive dental, vision and mental health services to children in need throughout
Walton and Okaloosa Counties.
It all started with a young boy named Tyler.
It all started at Point Washington United Methodist Church with one young boy named Tyler . He attended Kid’s Club on Tuesdays, an afterschool program there. He captured the attention of a volunteer, Tricia. Tyler was withdrawn, never smiling and was acting out towards family and friends.
Tyler was being bullied at school for his jagged teeth, referring to him as “monster mouth,” but the family could not afford the required dental care. Tricia knew she had to do something. She called in the help of friends at the church to find someone to help Tyler. A local dentist offered to provide braces to Tyler free of charge. Post dental transformation, Tyler began smiling, making friend’s and ended up becoming the captain of his wrestling team.
Out of this situation, Children's Volunteer Health Network was born in 2005.
Today, our focus is to provide dental, vision and mental health services to children in need in Walton and Okaloosa counties.
Our Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC) serves children in elementary schools in both counties. The MDC provides preventive dental care and travels to 10+ schools and community partners while serving over 1,000 children each school year.
We partner with a local vision provider in South Walton to provide children with free eye exams and a pair of glasses. We are currently seeking additional partners. Learn more about our Vision program here.
CVHN is excited to embark on a new initiative, providing mental health services to children k-12. We are in the development phase for this program. To learn more, check out our Mental Health page.
