The Children’s Volunteer Health Network’s “Just for Grins” Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC) is a 34-foot RV that has been transformed into a 2 operatory mobile dental clinic providing free preventive dental care for children who are in need and cannot afford treatment elsewhere. It is managed and staffed by 2 Registered Dental Hygienists. The MDC began visiting the Walton County Elementary schools in September 2008. In September 2015, the program expanded services into North Okaloosa County elementary schools. The schools visited by the MDC program in Okaloosa County are Laurel Hill School, Baker School, Walker Elementary and Riverside Elementary. The program provides free preventive dental care to elementary students that are enrolled in the Free/Reduced lunch programs. Grades seen varies depending on the number of qualifying students each year. In addition to the local schools, the MDC also partners with other local non-profits to ensure their children have access to dental care. The free preventive services provided are: bite wing x-rays, exams by a licensed dentist, oral health and nutritional education, cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants. With the opening of the CVHN Dental Clinic, restorative services have been removed to make room for more children to get preventive care.
