Healthcare Program

*If you want to learn how to become one of our providers download this handbook
How the process works…
- The child presents a health issue to the school nurse, teacher or the administrative staff.
- The child’s needs are assessed and the parent is called. If the parent states they are unable to provide the necessary treatment because of financial issues, the school nurse (or other school staff) checks to see if the child meets the eligibility requirement.
- If the/she does, the nurse gives the parent CVHN’s referral forms to fill out.
- After the paperwork is completed, the nurse faxes it to CVHN.
- Once paperwork is received, CVHN’s Client Care Coordinator reviews the information, and then contacts one of the providers to schedule an appointment for the child.
- The Coordinator then calls the parent and confirms they are able to take the child to the appointment.
- If any follow up appointments or specialty appointments are needed, the provider contacts CVHN with recommendations and CVHN will facilitate the necessary care.
Common Questions about CVHN’s Healthcare Referral Program:
Does the parent have to pay for any of these services?
CVHN’s providers donate their time and services for FREE or at a reduced cost to CVHN for children in our service area.
What if the child has Medicaid, will CVHN help the child?
YES, if the child has Medicaid, CVHN will try to send the child to a Medicaid provider, when possible. Also, CVHN will try to help the parents with Medicaid resources in the area.
What is expected of the child and parent?
- To attend all scheduled appointments on time.
- If you are unable to attend, please give at least 24 hour’s notice to CVHN so they may notify the provider.
- Be courteous to the provider and staff while at the appointment.
- Communicate with CVHN if additional assistance is needed.
What if a parent is unable to attend a scheduled appointment?
As a courtesy to our providers, we ask parents to give CVHN 24 hours advance notice if they are unable to attend the appointment, or as soon as possible. Our providers have reserved the appointed time for CVHN clients, repeated no-show appointments are not tolerated.

The preventive care includes dental examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride treatments and sealants (when appropriate).  Restorative services includes amalgam and composite fillings, extractions, pulpotomies (baby teeth root canals) and stainless steel crowns.
Since hitting the road in 2008, Just for Grins has seen…
- 2008-2009 school year: 936 children treated
- 2009-2010 school year: 1,004 children treated

CVHN Dental Clinic Coming Soon!
Our future dental clinic site is located at 78 Lynn Drive Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Stay tuned for updates on our build out process!

When a child has a toothache and no insurance, where can a family turn?
CVHN is blessed to have secured start up funding, thanks to a local family foundation, to build out an existing building into a fully staffed three chair dental clinic which will serve uninsured and underinsured children in Okaloosa and Walton Counties.
The CVHN Dental Clinic will primarily serve children with restorative dental needs such as fillings, extractions and other restorative procedures. Our Mobile Dental Clinic, “Just for Grins” will continue to travel to our local schools focusing on preventative treatments such as cleanings, exams and sealants.
The opening of this clinic will allow more children to get help who require restorative treatments. The clinic will have a 2 chair bay area as well as 1 chair in a quiet room. A full time licensed dentist will be on site accompanied by a professional support staff.
We need your help to make sure this much needed service remains available to our local children.
