Children’s Volunteer Health Network Honors Volunteers

In his 2002 State of the Union address, President Bush issued a challenge to all Americans to make time to help their neighbors, communities, and Nation through service. In 2003, President Bush created the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to find ways to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our Nation. The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation created the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who engage in volunteer service.

The heart of Children’s Volunteer Health Network (CVHN) is its volunteers. Volunteers provide professional medical services, transportation and help with fundraising events. The help of volunteers is key to the success of CVHN. With this help, CVHN has facilitated over 1300 medical, dental and mental health care appointments for underserved children in our area. Without the help of its volunteers, none of this would be possible.

On Feb. 5, CVHN presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to the volunteers who donated over 100 hours of service to CVHN in 2007. The recipients of the award were Jane Bahr, Blaine Baker, Zach Billingsley, Susan Breeden, Don Capshaw, Lynn Carter, Tricia Carlisle Northcutt, Kate Johnson, Cindy L’Abbe, Harry Millsaps, Susannah Rice, Bill Roberts, Shari Roberts, Dr. George Roll, Lisa Shorts Pitell, Debbie Sullivan and Beth Vanta. Tricia Carlisle Northcutt, CVHN President and Founder remarked: “Volunteering is the gift of selfless love .It is the finite definition of priceless and benefits both the giver and the receiver. I cannot think of anything that is more powerful or life changing than being a volunteer. It creates an opportunity for us to walk the paths of others. We are thankful for our CVHN volunteers.”

Children’s Volunteer Health Network, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of uninsured and underinsured school-aged children by facilitating free immediate access to medical, dental and mental health care.
